Walking at Sunset

Oh sing of summer and a sunset
And sing for us, so that we may remember
The day writes the words right across the sky
They all go all the way up to the top of the night

A few night a week I have been taking the kids for a walk around the block right before it gets dark. They love it and I love spending the time with the as we explore our neighborhood.

Handsome rides his scooter and The Goddess pushes her baby dolls in a carriage or shopping cart. Me, I just look for cars and stop the boy from wiping out.

The Best Time Of The Day

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this – Trace Atkins

We have been taking the kids around the block at sunset. It is beautiful out and the air is crisp. My son is allowed to take his scooter (a big step for me and for him) and my daughter takes her babies. It takes us about 25 minutes to go around the block which would be about 4 if I was alone but it is so much fun.  They point out everything and my son is getting better on the scooter. He has never ridden in the street and the first night he wiped out two times. Thank God for helmets.

My Week In Pictures – August 25 – August 31, 2008

August 25th – Where the hell was my camera?

August 26th – I took the kids to the botanical gardens. We go about 4 times a year. It was pretty sad to see so many of the flowers dying, just means that summer is ending. It was still beautiful and I took some amazing pictures.

August 27th – I went to the park with Sheress and the kids. We got there early and had the park mostly to ourselves except for some pita (pain in the ass) kid who decided to purposely spill his Red Bull drink all over the tunnels. Who gives their 11 year old Red Bull anyway? There is just as much sugar and caffeine if not more than soda.  My son and Sheress son aren’t as close as I would want them to be but I am still holding out hope that they turn out to be good friends.

August 28th – I took the kids to Borders. I really needed to get my new Amy Knapp’s Family Organizer. It really is the best. I let the kids pick out a book each every time we go. My son always picks from the Bargain bins (I love that). Border does have some awesome Bargain bins. I do a lot of my Christmas shopping through them for the kids on my list.  With 18 kids under the age of 18 to buy for you really need to spend wisely.

The book he picked was an Elmo book and had finger puppets. I have been the audience to many finger puppet shows this weekend as you can imagine.

August 29th – We spent some time at the library where we checked out a small book shelf worth. I Read all of them 3 times and played some games with the kids.  My son has been wanting to open up a manicure kit I have in my bedroom because he thinks the gloves are like boxing gloves. Wii and boxing are his favorite things at the moment. I told him the hot pink gloves are for my hands but he wore them and punched his Power Ranger punching bag for about 10 minutes. Whatever keeps him busy for a while is fine with me.

August 30th – We did some food shopping in the morning and then we got the car washed at the $5.00 car wash in town. This was their second trip through it and my daughter was a little nervous.  To read more or to see a small video head on over here.

August 31st – Today when I walked onto the deck there was a small white butterfly on it’s back. I put it on the table and took some pictures of it walking around. Goddess asked to hold it. She was so gentle and sweet with it made me think about getting her a pet for about 2 seconds. I loved watching her face as she told me it was tickling her or that she was not going to drop it. She must have held it for about 15 minutes before putting it down. She asked about it all day. I hope it eventually got its strength back and moved on.

My Week In Pictures – Aug 3-Aug 9

Let’s face it, I take a lot of pictures. Why? Well mostly because I don’t want to forget anything and I don’t want my kids to now have them. My dad took a lot of pictures but I only have about 100 pictures total of my life from newborn to when I was 20 taking my own photos. Life is fast, take as many pictures as possible. Once the moment is gone you can’t get it back but what you can get is one glimpse into it forever.

August 3, 2008 – Sunday – The hub, kids and I were on the deck. My daughter like most baby girls wants to be just like her mommy. She asked if she could borrow my hat and played at the sand table. I snapped about 15 pictures but I think I love this one the most because of the coloring. I only picked up the color of the hat and really like the effect. She is stunning no matter what I take. I love the way her hair is hanging and the tiny peek of face.

August 4, 2008 – Monday – My husband colored my hair over the weekend. We used a 2 step process color and then highlightening. I really like the effect and think he did an awesome job considering it was his first time.  The electric company stopped by to tell us that the power would be off for a few hours so I invited myself over my girlfriend’s house. She gladly invited me in even though she was already having a play-date complete with another kid and another friend. It turned into a girlfest of gossip, sex talk, bra sizes, drinking, fantasies and then they straightened my hair. Nice! My friend has to tell me what the name of this contraption was because my hair was never straighter whether done by stylist or by myself. As you can see, I was loving myself.

August 5, 2008 – Tuesday – My GF’s youngest at the lake. To see the original picture before Photoshop head over to my main blog here.

August 6, 2008 – Wednesday – I had to take one more picture of my son before I had his hair cut. My husband and I love the long hair as does my son but too many people were saying she is cute even with him sporting muscle shirts with dragons or sports equipment on them. He is playing with the Little People in my daughter’s bedroom while watching TV. She has cable and the coolest TV in the house (Santa, I hope you are listening, the boy needs a new TV, preferably like his sisters with a flat screen that can be mounted to the wall).

August 7, 2008 – Thursday – After their bath I wrapped a towel around my daughter’s hair for the first time and she couldn’t stop looking at herself in the mirror. She loved it because “it’s just like Mommy,” I loved it because she looked cute. She is her father’s daughter so she proceeded to ham it up. What’s not to love about a baby in a girly PJ with a towel on, making faces?

August 8, 2008 – Friday – Was a not picture day. I was out from 9:30 a.m with my girl Sheress until 4:30. I was so pissed that I didn’t have my camera but there was a reason. I have a pet peeve about being late and Sheress is ALWAY late. On this particular morning she called as I was heading to the door and screwed everything up when she said, “I’m here!” I thought she meant the park so I hightailed it out of there. Nope, she meant the gas station, the she went to Dunkin Donuts, then SHE arrived at the park. Which meant we waited 15 minutes in the car for her. I so had time to get the camera!

After the park we headed to pick up her eldest, while I waited for her (what else is new?) to come pick me, the kids, and the car seats up. This was the first time we didn’t travel via caravan. We all got into her mini van, the kids watched a very LOUD The Golden Compass and Sheress and I talked. Very fun! Then we headed to Chili’s where I made sure I stuck to my diet by getting salad and chili. After that we headed to Target, where I picked up Wii Fit and found out I am obese. Oh well! Overweight yes, but obese? Hardly!!

Today – August 9, 2008 – Saturday- While I have some amazing pictures from today, I chose this one because my son looks so happy. I hardly ever take my kids to the yard because we have a huge deck and a creek that runs through my back yard which would you utilize? Today my husband came home and took the kids to the backyard. My son loves going down there and my husband, like most fathers,  give the kids way more freedom than I ever would. They were picking up rocks and sticks and throwing them in the creek. My son is proudly showing his to his daddy. My daughter is jumping on a rock that my husband put over a huge gopher hole.  They had an amazing time, I took a couple of pictures, did 30 minutes on Wii fit, saw them walking by the house to go around the block and met them outside to join them on the walk. I think this was the 3rd time we have walked around as a family and I was loving it.

Summer At The Lake

“Glory days well they’ll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl’s eye
Glory days, glory days”

These are Glory Days. My kids are living a wonderful life here in my little lake village. I love that they get to see this sight every day. The majestic mountains, the cool, crisp ripple of the water, the ducks, swans and various other birds of our area, an occasional bear and cubs, the hundreds of deer that timidly strut across the yard. I love it here and I am happy to be bringing them up in a beautiful town. I love it here.

Scene Stealer

My kids are both so amazing for different reasons. My son, is more like me. He is loyal, sensitive and quiet. He feels things deeply and you don’t really know what is going on behind his eyes. You have to really pull information from him because he is very shy and uncertain in his abilities. We are so similar that it is frigtening. Then there is my daughter….

She is a total scene stealer, extremely funny, very personable, knows how to wrap people around her finger for her own evil doing by knowing just what the other person does or doesn’t want to hear depending on her desired effect, is she so like my husband.
